Why Saint Laurent belongs in a rental closet

Saint Laurent pieces photograph well and carry an outfit on their own, which is why they rent. A black Kate bag, a pair of Tribute sandals or a tuxedo-style jacket covers most black-tie invitations.

The label has changed over the years, from Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche to Saint Laurent Paris in 2012. We welcome both, including older YSL clothing and costume jewelry.

Saint Laurent goes out for galas, weddings and holiday parties. Evening bags and heels are asked for most, followed by silk dresses and tailored jackets.

Saint Laurent we would love to receive

  • Kate, Loulou, Sac de Jour, Niki and Envelope bags
  • Wallets on chain and small leather goods
  • Tribute sandals, Opyum heels and pumps
  • Tuxedo jackets and blazers
  • Silk dresses and blouses
  • Belts and jewelry

Donate or consign?

If cash is the goal, a current Saint Laurent piece in excellent condition will sell on a consignment site once the commission comes out. Donating makes more sense when the piece is older, shows some wear, or you would rather see it worn again than sold once. You get an itemized receipt instead of a payout, and the piece keeps earning for charity.

How to send your Saint Laurent

  1. Request a free mailer and tell us what you are sending.
  2. We mail you a bag with a prepaid USPS label and a short instruction card. Nothing to print, nothing to pay.
  3. Pack it and drop it at any post office, or hand it to your carrier.
  4. We check and photograph every piece, and your itemized receipt follows in 5 to 7 business days.

Condition and packing: Normal wear is fine. Include dust bags, boxes or cards if you still have them, empty any pockets, and wrap each piece in a soft cloth before it goes in the mailer.

Where the money goes

Every piece is rented for two weeks at a time, then cleaned and sent out again. Net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end, and every donor can nominate a charity to the list.

Questions about donating Saint Laurent

Do you take vintage Yves Saint Laurent?

Yes. Rive Gauche and older YSL pieces are welcome, including clothing, scarves and costume jewelry.

Can I send shoes that have been worn?

Yes. We clean every pair, and renters expect light wear on the soles of designer shoes.

Is donating Saint Laurent tax-deductible?

Yes. FashionablyGood is run by OnlyFuego Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You receive an itemized receipt listing each piece within 5 to 7 business days of it arriving. The IRS asks donors to determine the value themselves, and a qualified appraisal is required if you claim more than $5,000 for one item or a group of similar items. We are not tax advisors, so check with yours.

How do I send my Saint Laurent?

Request a mailer. We send you a bag with a prepaid USPS label and a short instruction card, so there is nothing to print and nothing to pay. Drop it at any post office or hand it to your carrier.

What happens after it arrives?

We check it, photograph it and list it for two-week rentals with free shipping both ways. Net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end, and you can nominate a charity to the list.
