Donate Your Hermès Scarves

An Hermès silk carré is made to be worn for decades. Send the scarves sitting in a drawer and they go back out to events.

Why Hermès belongs in a rental closet

Hermès scarves are printed on silk twill with hand-rolled edges, and each design carries the artist's signature in the print. The classic carré is 90 cm square; the smaller gavroche and the long, narrow twilly are just as easy to wear.

Scarves are ideal for a rental closet: no sizing, easy to ship, and one scarf changes an outfit. Vintage designs are welcome.

Renters tie them at the neck, on a bag handle or in their hair for luncheons, weddings and travel.

Hermès we would love to receive

  • 90 cm silk carrés
  • Twillys and maxi twillys
  • Gavroche pocket squares
  • Cashmere and silk shawls
  • Scarf rings
  • Orange boxes, if you have them

Donate or consign?

If cash is the goal, a current Hermès piece in excellent condition will sell on a consignment site once the commission comes out. Donating makes more sense when the piece is older, shows some wear, or you would rather see it worn again than sold once. You get an itemized receipt instead of a payout, and the piece keeps earning for charity.

How to send your Hermès scarves

  1. Request a free mailer and tell us what you are sending.
  2. We mail you a bag with a prepaid USPS label and a short instruction card. Nothing to print, nothing to pay.
  3. Pack it and drop it at any post office, or hand it to your carrier.
  4. We check and photograph every piece, and your itemized receipt follows in 5 to 7 business days.

Condition and packing: Normal wear is fine. Include dust bags, boxes or cards if you still have them, empty any pockets, and wrap each piece in a soft cloth before it goes in the mailer.

Where the money goes

Every piece is rented for two weeks at a time, then cleaned and sent out again. Net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end, and every donor can nominate a charity to the list.

Questions about donating Hermès

Do you take vintage Hermès scarves?

Yes. Older designs are some of the most interesting pieces a renter can wear.

What if the scarf has a small mark?

Send it and mention the mark in your note. Silk can often be cleaned, and a small mark rarely shows once a scarf is tied.

Is donating Hermès tax-deductible?

Yes. FashionablyGood is run by OnlyFuego Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You receive an itemized receipt listing each piece within 5 to 7 business days of it arriving. The IRS asks donors to determine the value themselves, and a qualified appraisal is required if you claim more than $5,000 for one item or a group of similar items. We are not tax advisors, so check with yours.

How do I send my Hermès scarves?

Request a mailer. We send you a bag with a prepaid USPS label and a short instruction card, so there is nothing to print and nothing to pay. Drop it at any post office or hand it to your carrier.

What happens after it arrives?

We check it, photograph it and list it for two-week rentals with free shipping both ways. Net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end, and you can nominate a charity to the list.
