Donate Your Chanel

A Chanel piece you no longer carry can go out to galas and weddings for years. We mail you a prepaid bag, you drop it at the post office, and an itemized receipt follows.

Why Chanel belongs in a rental closet

Chanel is the label people ask for by name. A quilted flap bag or a tweed jacket reads as Chanel from across a ballroom, which is exactly why renters want it for one big night instead of buying it.

Older pieces are just as welcome as new ones. Bags made before 2021 carry a serial sticker and usually came with an authenticity card; newer bags use an embedded microchip. Send whatever came with yours, but a missing card or box does not stop a donation.

Chanel bags and jewelry do most of their work at black-tie events, where a guest wants one piece that carries the whole outfit. Jackets go out for luncheons, holiday parties and board events.

Donate or consign?

If cash is the goal, a current Chanel bag in excellent condition will sell on a consignment site once the site takes its commission. Donating makes more sense when the bag is older, shows some wear, or you would rather see it carried again than sold once. You get an itemized receipt instead of a payout, and the bag keeps earning for charity.

How to send your Chanel

  1. Request a free mailer and tell us what you are sending.
  2. We mail you a bag with a prepaid USPS label and a short instruction card. Nothing to print, nothing to pay.
  3. Pack it and drop it at any post office, or hand it to your carrier.
  4. We check and photograph every piece, and your itemized receipt follows in 5 to 7 business days.

Condition and packing: Wear is fine. Rubbed corners, light scratches on the hardware and a softened shape are normal for a bag that was carried. Include the dust bag, card or box if you still have them, and tuck the bag into its dust bag or a soft cloth before it goes in the mailer.

Where the money goes

Every piece is rented for two weeks at a time, then cleaned and sent out again. Net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end, and every donor can nominate a charity to the list.

Questions about donating Chanel

Do I need the authenticity card or the box?

No. Send them if you have them, since they help us confirm the piece and they travel with it to renters. A bag without its card is still welcome.

Do you take Chanel costume jewelry?

Yes. Brooches, pearl strands and earrings rent well because there is no sizing to worry about.

Is donating Chanel tax-deductible?

Yes. FashionablyGood is run by OnlyFuego Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You receive an itemized receipt listing each piece within 5 to 7 business days of it arriving. The IRS asks donors to determine the value themselves, and a qualified appraisal is required if you claim more than $5,000 for one item or a group of similar items. We are not tax advisors, so check with yours.

How do I send my Chanel?

Request a mailer. We send you a bag with a prepaid USPS label and a short instruction card, so there is nothing to print and nothing to pay. Drop it at any post office or hand it to your carrier.

What happens after it arrives?

We check it, photograph it and list it for two-week rentals with free shipping both ways. Net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end, and you can nominate a charity to the list.
