Can You Get a Tax Deduction for Donating Coats?
Yes. Designer coats, jackets, and outerwear donated to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit are tax-deductible at fair market value. A gently worn Max Mara coat can mean a deduction in the high hundreds.
FashionablyGood accepts luxury and designer outerwear for our charity fashion rental program. 100% of net rental profits are split across the charities on our Honor Roll at year end.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I deduct for donating a coat?
You deduct fair market value: the price a buyer would pay for it today, not the original retail price. The value ranges on this page show typical amounts by brand and condition.
Do I need a receipt or appraisal to claim the deduction?
For donations under $500, our itemized receipt is enough. Over $500, you also file IRS Form 8283 with your return. Items valued over $5,000 require a qualified appraisal.
Can I mail my coat from any state?
Yes. We accept mail-in donations from anywhere in the US. Once your package arrives, we send an itemized 501(c)(3) tax receipt within 5-7 business days.
What condition does the coat need to be in?
Clean, with working zippers and buttons. Wool, down, and designer coats in good condition are especially valuable.
